Trucking Anti-Terrorism

Trucking Industry Security Issues Front and Center since 9/11

Asset management, cargo security and theft, tracking capabilities and productivity issues have always been key concerns for supply chain stakeholders. However, in the weeks and months following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the media was filled with stories about trucking industry security, fearing a hijacked vehicle could be used as a weapon of mass destruction. Today, the concern over radioactive "dirty bombs" being deployed through the transportation system remains a reality.

Governments have begun to implement programs such as the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) and Free and Secure Trade (FAST) to help secure the supply chain, but transportation industry security remains at risk and commercial carriers are taking steps to fortify their operations through training, on-site security and technology.

Anti-terrorism for the Trucking Industry

New technology is quickly transforming the transportation and logistics industries. With the introduction of new wireless and radio frequency systems and devices, Safefreight Technology is on the leading edge of a high-tech revolution in transportation.

Since the terrorist strikes of 9/11, cargo security concerns, especially among carriers of hazardous materials (hazmat) and intermodal shippers has prompted the development of new technologies, software and strategies designed specifically to both track and protect goods in transit.

Hazardous materials and intermodal carriers will be affected most by enhanced security measures. Other segments affected by the threat of terrorism include agriculture/food transportation, government and emergency vehicles. Specific security solutions include panic alarms,  vehicle / auto tracking and cargo security.

Intermodal and transborder carriers will need cargo security to expedite shipments at ports and border crossings. Carriers with proper security such as cargo seals, tracking mechanisms and completed paperwork likely will experience fewer and quicker inspections.

Safefreight Provides Solutions for Transportation Industry Security

With Safefreight’s SmartFleet® System, critical security and location information is collected by a vehicle-mounted SecurityGuard™ device, communicated wirelessly by cellular and / or satellite, and served to the customer online via Safefreight's internet application - SmartFleet® Manager.

The system provides security, tracking, monitoring, control and reporting capability for dry van and tank trailers as well as the power units that haul them, effectively mitigating security threats related to the movement of hazardous materials.

Safefreight's integrated telematics provide a combination of onboard alarms, sensors, wireless monitoring and real-time tracking that responds immediately to cargo and security threats while also allowing fleet managers to more efficiently operate their fleets. Features range from tractor anti-theft locks to geo-fencing and immobilization capabilities.

This unique technology offers the powerful combination of onboard deterrence and immobilization in addition to instant notification and location monitoring – powerful features that put you in control.
